“Hi, I'm Jet Takayama!
I'm a mixed Asian-American multi-disciplinary artist living on Lenape land, also known as Philadelphia. I was born in South Carolina on the land of the Cherokee and Congaree peoples and raised near the Congaree River amongst flowers and birdsong, spending most of my childhood sitting in trees and barefoot in the grass — and that deep love for the natural world and the beings that live in it never left me. I grew up surrounded by my great-grandfather's vivid landscape paintings and started daydreaming and drawing young, and my work today echoes all of it, combining depictions of flora and fauna with fantasy and myth, the real world and the imagined one always beautifully tangled together. I aim to make work that reminds you that there is always a little bit of wild magic left to be found.”
