“Hi, I'm Shushanik Karapetyan!
A New York-based artist born in Yerevan, Armenia, whose paintings live in the quiet, luminous space between sky and earth, color and feeling, structure and flow. My work is deeply informed by my practice as a Gestalt psychotherapist — I approach painting the way I approach presence, with attunement and responsiveness to personal experience and the environment around me. I'm drawn to sunsets, seasonal shifts, and the vivid colors of flowers I encounter on my walks, and these impressions weave themselves into layered, horizon-based compositions that explore contrast, balance, and what I think of as the "contact-boundary" — that tender space where we connect with and separate from others and ourselves. Some boundaries in my paintings blur softly into one another, others hold a sharp, definitive edge, mirroring the push and pull of being human.”
